I'm running visa server on a XP system and want to remote control the instruments connected to it. Here's the problem, there's a forbidden sign on the visa server icon with a message "no access permissions". I checked with MAE, everything looked fine. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance.

Hey Guanglei,
It sounds like you have not configured the access permissions for NI VISA Server. In MAX, go to Tools > NI VISA > VISA Options, then select Security under VISA Server. Add a new permission and don't forget to click Save:
Valid network addresses include letters (a-z, A-Z), numbers (0-9), hyphens (-), underscores (_), and periods (.), but no spaces. IP addresses (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) or their equivalent DNS names (machine.domain.com) are also valid remote addresses. Other valid entries include "*" for all network addresses, "xxx.xxx.xxx.*" or "xxx.xxx.*" for subnets, and "*.com" or "*.somedomain.com" for domains.
Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot, this solves the problem... I forgot to click save in my own tryouts.

Hi Misha,
I have a Measurement Device in a remote distance. I could ping and via VNC I could even control the device.
Furthermore I have installed on the Device the Visa, VISA Server and MAX 4.1.
For some reason there is no VISA-Server property on the MAX, so I am on my way to re-install it.
Is this the only component missing on the Remote Device, or do I miss more NI-Components? What is the basic components needed?
Best regards
