what does Error 1706 mean during LabView 6.1 installation

I am installing 6.1 on a machine where I am currently running 6i. I have not uninstalled 6i. I get the following error at the end of the Ni-IMAQ 2.5.2.

Error 1706:No valid source could be found for product NI LabView 6.0. The windows installer cannot continue.

It's been a while, but it seems to me that when I did a similar install, I
got a similar error. I think that I clicked on "OK" and the install
proceeded and completed successfully (in spite of the fact that the error
message said it could not continue).

This error occurs because of the different versions of NI-IMAQ on your machine. To solve this, uninstall NI-IMAQ that got installed with LabVIEW 6i. Then install LabVIEW 6.1 with NI-IMAQ 2.5.2.
If this doesn't work, then uninstall all NI-IMAQ (make sure all IMAQ folders are gone), do a custom installation of LabVIEW 6.1, and choose not to install NI-IMAQ. After you install LabVIEW 6.1, install NI-IMAQ 2.5.2 separately.
