xcontrol reference error out of memory

This seems like a bug but I wasn't sure if there was anything I could do to prevent this from happening.  I am using LV2009 and whenever I accidentaly wire an xcontrol reference to somewhere that it doesn't belong, the program freaks out and throws an out of memory error.  After a few clicks I am finally able to select the broken wire, and delete it.  Is there something I can set in the xcontrol or Labview that would prevent them from trying to do whatever it is that it is that they are trying to do?

Hi Jimbo,

I am not seeing this behavior with an xcontrol reference that I set up on my system. Does this happen with a reference to any xcontrol, or is it only certain ones? Could you post your VI so that I can see if the same thing happens?

I've only tested it on two very similar xcontrols, and then on a new xcontrol. I created a new xcontrol, with no editing (just saved it right away), and then a new vi and inserted the xcontrol into the vi. To simulate the error I was seeing, I wired up the reference of the xcontrol to a string.  Normally this error occurs when I accidentally wire the reference up to the error terminal of a property node.  Trying to right click on the wire brings up an out of memory error as shown below.  Attached is the code that produced this error.

Perhaps I should let my boss know that my computer is too old (~ 1 year) and needs to be replaced 🙂

HI JimboH,

I will  give this a try and let you know what I find out. Kinda late here so I will be checking it out tomorrow.

Hi JimboH,

Nice and easy to reproduce. I have filed Corrective Action Request  (CAR) 186664 to R&D for further investigation. I do not have a better work around other than

not to wire the reference into an indicator at this time.
