Error 1335 during installation

Hi,

I get this error while installing the LabWindows/CVI. Any idea why? I installed it on another computer and it's fine.

LabWindows/CVI 7.0, Windows 2000

Thanks

Hello,

Error 1335 is a unable to read from cabinet file error. You say that you used the same CD to install to another machine and it worked, so I don't think you have a bad CD. I have seen this occur before because the CD-ROM in the install machine has a problem. I have also seen MSI report this error when trying to install to a subst drive or a invalid network location.

One thing you can try is to copy the installation from the hard disk first. If there is an error while copying then you know it is a CD/CD-ROM issue. If you still get the error when installing from the hard disk, then please rerun the installer using the following command line and send me the log:

setup.exe /costlog /l*v "c:\installlog.txt"

OK,

The log is not telling me anything other than it is having trouble installing cviogl.dll. It is installing a lot of other files from the CAB that is complains about though so you may have a scratched disk or something. Can you give me some specifics:

Does it always display the same error message? With the same filename?
Does it work if you copy all the CD contents to you harddisk and run setup from there?
What OS are you running? (This will tell me wht version of MSI you are running.)
It worked on another machine, was this from the same CD? Are they different OSes?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hello Jeff

Yes it always display the same error "..'CVIMain1.cab' required for this installation is corrupted....", and it is displayed during part 1 of 7 of the installation. The first time it happened it was further on in the installation (and I'm quite sure there were more parts) and it happened in part 4 (I think but not sure). It appears that even thought I canceled the installation, some of the installation remains (NI license manager for example). But at this point (which is the same as when I sent the log file) it always stop at the same point with the same error message.

Installation from the hard disk results in the exact same error message at the same place.

The operating system is Win 2000

The other PC I installed it on is and identical PC, same OS, same disk.

Hope it helps in figuring out the problem

Thank you very much

Hello Rafi2003,

If you haven't already, I would suggest cleaning your installation CD-ROM. You may want to also try doing a clean boot before installing. Then, I would suggest uninstalling any remaining NI software (NI License Manager, as you mentioned in the previous post), so you can get a fresh install. Then I would suggest upgrading to the latest version of the Windows Installer for Windows 2000. Then, you can try reinstalling on your machine.

Thanks.

Hello Wendy, Jeff

I followed your instructions Wnedy and uninstalled anything related to NI. 'Clean Boot' was not very helpful because I could not activate the installation under Safe Mode. I upgraded the 'Windows Installer' as you advised.

I get the same error in the same place as my first clean installation.

I attached the log file. This file IS DIFFERENT from the previous one I attached since this time I started with a clean system.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

This is a strange one. I would like for you to test the CAB file, CVIMain1.cab. You can do this with WinRAR (http://www.rarsoft.com/), you can use the eval to test this. It seems like you have a corruption with this CAB. I want to make sure you do thisw on the same machine (since it is this machines drive that is having issues). Other than that I am not sure what I can do other than send you the CAB through FTP. The error that is occuring is an unable to get to file error (that can mean I can not get to it on the network, the CD is bad, the CAB is somehow corrupt, etc.) There is nothing I can do to rebuild the installer to make it work correct on that machine.
