Installation without Administrator rights on WinNT/2000

Can you install a CVI generated application wihtout administrator priviledges on WinNT? Other 3rd party software is able to but it wont let me install the CVI program.

You should always have administrator priviliges when "installing" software on any NT based OS. NT based OSs require you to have administrator permissions in order to modify the registry, modify system files, and obtain access to alter the contents of certain directories. An instance where you may not need administrator rights is if you were just copying an .exe to an NT pc to run it, but generally when you are "installing" software you are doing one or more of the above things I mentioned that you need priviliges for. If I were the person who did have administrator rights on this particular computer I would be grateful that this is the case, because if it weren't, anyone who logged in as a guest could install software, which can be a major liability to system integ
rity. If you want a particular user to be able to install software on the system but you don't want them to have full adminsitrator rights, go into the user settings while logged in as adminsitrator and change their profile so that they belong to the "power users group."
