Hello,
I made a distribution kit for one of my programs, but then decided to add onto the program. When I went to build another distribution kit, Labwindows stops partway through and says that NI-488.2 couldn't be found in the directory and to insert the Labwindows driver DVD. After I insert the disk, it still can't find the NI-488.2. This has happened on two separate computers with Labwindows installed. What can I do to get this driver?

A specific version is required, so make sure that you are providing the exact disk that you are prompted for. For example, if it said "August 2009," make sure that's the driver disk you are providing. Also, make sure that if it asks for a specific disk number (e.g. "Disk 2") you are providing that specific volume.

The NI Driver package has been multiple disks for several years now. The only way you would be prompted for Disk 2 is if something had been installed from it at some time. This means that sometime between August 2009 and now, someone had Disk 2 and used when installing some drivers to that system.
If you cannot find the disk, you can download the August 2009 device drivers from here. You may only need the second disk right now, but I would recommend getting all three volumes, because you may be prompted for the others, depending on what needs to be included in your distributions.

I have to correct my previous post. The Device Drivers have been consolidated from multiple CDs to a single DVD. I apologize for my confusion on that point. So it makes sense that you received only one disk -- one DVD -- with your software. Is that the disk that you installed all your drivers from? Is it possible that someone had installed the drivers from CDs or from a download?
It would also help very much if you could export part of your registry to a .reg file and post it here for me to examine. I'm interested in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\National Instruments\Common\Installer\Distributions. If you could right click that key and export everything contained in/under it, I'd appreciate it.

Bring up the Windows Run dialog (Windows key + R), and type "regedit" to launch the registry editor. On the left side, you'll see the registry key hierarchy. Browse to the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\National Instruments\Common\Installer\Distributions. Right click the Distributions key and choose "Export" from the menu. You'll then be able to save a .reg file containing everything under that key. You'll probably need to zip the file or change its file extension in order to post it to this forum.
Thanks.

Well, according to the registry, this system has had the following three distributions installed:
- National Instruments Device Drivers - February 2009 (5 disks)
- NI LabWindows/CVI 9.0.1 Base Package (1 disk)
- NI-488.2 for Windows (1 disk)
There is no record of a single-volume Device Drivers DVD being installed. Nor has the August 2009 driver suite been installed.
Is it possible there's been some confusion? If the system is prompting you for the February 2009 disk 2, that would make sense, and presumably you can provide that disk, since it has been installed at some time.

So what I have done is put the Driver DVD in and reinstalled all of the drivers. I tried to build the distribution again. It was going through the process when about halfway through a notice popped up saying
Cannot find distribution "NI LabWindows/CVI 9.0.1Base Package"
and gives me an option to browse the computer for it. I use the browse option to have it search the Driver DVD, but the same message pops up again.
