Hello,
on different computers running different versions of Windows (XP, XP64, 7), and for different versions of the NI Update Service (from 2.0.1 up to the latest 2.2.1.7), I receive the same error message (not just today, so I tend to exclude the possibility that the service is down at NI):
An issue communicating with National Instruments has occurred...
What requirements do exist for succcessfully running it?
Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks, but in all cases (XP, 7) I have run the program as administrator...

We have the same problem here in our offices in Denmark.
Administrator rights, version 2.2.1.7 ...
Any official NI status on this problem?

Same thing here in Huntsville, AL.
Even tried wiping one computer and starting from scratch.
Also tried two different connections from two different providers.
I talked to one of the Labview techs, and the only suggestion they had was to install 2012 instead of 2011.

NI tech asked me to disable Windows Firewall to see if that solved the problem. It didn't.

Same here... Turning Window firewall off (as admin) didn't help.
Admittedly this is not the appropriate forum, but I don't know any better place to ask...

Same here. NI tech support told me to run NI update to try and fix my driver issue, but update gives a message "An issue communicating with NI has occurred".....

Hi All,
Can you please let me know when the error message occurs? For example, does it occur as Update Service is checking for updates, as it's downloading the updates you've selected to install, or as it's installing the updates? If you are able to see and select updates, please let me know which updates you are trying to install. You can also run Update Service from the command line to generate a log file, like this:
NIUpdateService.exe -log log.txt
The NIUpdateService.exe should be located in your Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\Update Service directory, and the log will be placed there unless you specify a different path to save the log. Please post your log here and I'll take a look. The log doesn't contain any personal information, except perhaps your Windows username on XP machines only, but it will tell me how Update Service is communicating with ni.com and evaluating updates on your system.
Thanks, LaRisa

I am getting this error when I try to check for updates:
"An issue communicating with National Instruments has occured. Either this computer does not have an active Internet connection or ni.com is temporarily down. Verify your Internet connection and then click Try Again. If the problem persists, contact National Instruments."
Here is the contents of the log file:
