NI Update Service: communication problems

Solved!
Go to solution

I have been experience the same problem with the update service since I upgraded my computer to LabView 2012. To get a log file, you need to run it as an administrator and I have attached the output. I'm running Vista on this computer but I can no longer get it to work on my 32 bit XP Professional machine either. I hope the log file can help track down this issue.

Thank you both for posting the logs. It seems to be an error updating the Launch Conditions Evaluator, which is a file that Update Service uses to properly evaluate conditions under which to display an update. Since this file is already up-to-date when the latest version of Update Service (2.2.1) is on the system, we've edited the back-end server to not try to deliver the Evaluator file when Update Service 2.2.1 is installed. That means that for the time being, you can install Update Service 2.2.1 to work around this issue. The installer can be found here: http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/3426/lang/en

My team will continue trying to find the root cause of the problem, so that earlier versions of Update Service won't encounter this. We have seen that hundreds of users download the Evaluator file successfully each day, so we can't tell right now what's causing the problem on the systems you all reported.

Please do let me know if you find any further problems with Update Service 2.2.1.

Thanks, LaRisa

I'm sorry I didn't say what version of the update service that I used. I'm already running 2.2.1 on both of my machines. I tried that as my first attempt to fix the problem. I'm also having this issue on a 64 bit Windows 7 ultimate computer that I don't have access to right now, and the change to 2.2.1 didn't fix that one either.

I just made the change on the back-end server to allow 2.2.1 to not update this file. Have you tried launching 2.2.1 again since I posted?

I just tried again and it completed. Now I see that have a few updates to install. I will try on the other machines and I will post if I have any issues. Thank you for your quick response and help.

My team discovered the root cause this afternoon and fixed it. You should now be able to use any version of Update Service without error. Please let me know if you see any further issues. Thanks!

Great, many thanks!

Indeed I can confirm that also earlier versions such as 2.1 that shipped with CVI2012 now work - and it does already show an update Smiley Wink

I am able to download updates but they always fail to install.  The error message in the GUI states "An issue communicating with National Instruments has occurred."  The error message in the update service log says "Key not valid for use in specified state."  Do you have any help for this error?
