Windows 7 - 64 bits PCI devices

Solved!
Go to solution

We are upgrading all computers and OS to Windows 7 with 64 bits.  The M&A does not recognize the PCI interface but Windows does.

Using CVI 9.0 and NI_DAQ 8.9.

Looking at other posts, it appears that NI does not support Windows 7.  If this is true, when will they.

NI supports Windows 7, including 64 bit, on most of its software and hardware products.

The old NI-DAQ is not supported, but NI-DAQmx is supported in x86 or x64.

See their info here:

My concern is still the fact that M&A does not recognize my PCI device.  I have removed the board, powered back up to make sure it was gone and reinstalled the board and it still could not find the PCI card??

What is the answer or what else can I do to get this PCI board back in production.

What is your PCI device?

Did NI-MAX recognize it under your previous version of Windows?

Can your application software talk to the PCI device?

What version of NI-MAX are you using?  This table (https://www.ni.com/en/support/documentation/compatibility/16/measurement---automation-explorer--max-...) shows that NI-MAX 4.5 shipped with NI-DAQmx 8.9 that you said you were using.  NI's table on Windows 7 compatibility shows you need NI-MAX 4.6.2.  You may need to ugrade your NI_DAQmx to a minimum of 8.9.5 and your NI-MAX to 4.6.2.

You can get NI-DAQmx here: https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-daq-mx.html

The Windows 7 compatibility table does include a note that NI-MAX 4.6.2 will run in the Windows On Windows emulation layer, but that should be transparent to you and shouldn't affect its ability to recognize devices.
