How difficult would it be to upgrade from Lookout 5.1 to 6.5?

Hello, I was told that Lookout 6.5 works with Windows 7. Before I purchase 6.5 I need to know how difficult it will be to move from 5.1 to 6.5. Has anyone done this move? If I am going to have to redraw, or do numerous changes to the Database then I won't do it and I'll start from scratch with Cimplicity or ClearSCADA.

Thanks.

The source file(.lks) is compatible. You can directly open it in 6.5 and recompile.

The database is not compatible, but you can use the MAX(Measurement Automation Explorer) to upgrade the database. It's straightforward, and you won't lose your data.

Like Ryan stated, it is a relatively painless move.  It the system uses SQL calls to the Citadel database, the syntax will need to be updated.

Good luck.

It's not painless. When I try to use MAX to convert the Database MAX crashes. I use localhost for the computer name and then when I hit browse to look for a location of the Database, it crashes. The same thing happens when I use the nihdv.exe utility. I need to get past this, I've been stuck on this problem for days now.

I thought CVWD used ClearSCADA? (I work with Desert Water Agency and Mission Springs nearby)

I have not used 6.5, but my moves from 5.x to 6.1/6.2 have not run into this issue, hopefully Ryan will respond soon.

We use a custom SCADA designed by SCIPAR out of Buffalo New York. We've had a SCADA System here for about 28 Years. I have small standalone SCADA Systems running Lookout.

Another Question, because I can't get the Database Converted for one of my systems, I'm wondering if it is ever needed. This is a small system and the operator's use Trending and Alarm Functions but they never look at historical archives. I do have the Object Members set up to Log, is that needed for Trending to function? I wonder if I can get by without the conversion since it doesn't look like I'm ever going to get it to work.

You don't have to convert the database if you don't need the historical data. The data logged by object is saved in the database. You can use the Hypertrend to view it.

I installed my files on a new Windows 7 Machine running Lookout 6.5. I moved over the Database Folder but never was able to get the database converted because MAX crashes. However, the Hypertrending seems to work even without converting the database.

It is a bug in MAX in converting the database. By default, lookout 6.5 uses a new database for logging and viewing. If you don't need the old data, it doesn't matter.

Is there a way to put the old database in a folder and use a different program to view it? Have two databases', one new and one old. Use the new with Lookout and the old database just to view old data.
