Lookout with SLC500 using 1747-PIC

Has anyone found a way to have Lookout communicate with an Allen Bradley SCL500 using a 1747-PIC adapter, directly into the computer's serial port using one of the built in Lookout AB SLC500 drivers? I can get it to work using DDE/OPC, but I prefer to just use one of the built-in lookout plc drivers. The KE/KF/Serial drivers apparently do not work with this connection.

If not, does anyone have a recommendation on how best to utilize the DDE link? I just simply created a Lookout DDE Link to pick the various addresses from the PLC, was wondering if there is a more efficient method of doing this. I only need about 20 values but they are scattered throughout the PLC's memory.

No, you can't use Lookout's built-in drivers with 1747-PIC.  All the available ways to connect to SLC500 are described in detail in Lookout's help.

I have recently started using ethernet to communicate with an Allen Bradley SLC 5/03. I was told this

could not be done however that is not true. This can be done and is very easy to do. The cost for this

application is half the cost of an ENI module and works very well. Look at DIGI One IA. If you have any

questions just ask!!

Originally Lookout SLC500 object doesn't support any Ethernet connection. Then we developed the ethernet driver for SLC5/05. I guess, but not sure, that we didn't test with SLC5/04 or SLC5/03, and found there was something different in 5/04 or 5/03, then we officially say that only SLC5/05 supports Ethernet connection, just like what the help file said.

I also saw some messages from customer that the Ethernet communication with 5/04 and 5/03 are fine. It is good, but I'm sorry that maybe we need more tests to verify.

One question, how do you connect to the PLC?

The connection is a simple RS232 connection. 2 to 3 and 3 to 2 with 5 being the ground. At first I started using

a null modem connection but later found out that the three wire 232 connection worked just the same.

But you said you started to use Ethernet connection to 5/03.

RS232 or Ethernet? I'm confused.

It is very simple. It looks like a 232 connection but it is over the ethernet. It is a virtual 232 connection. It works

just as well as the straight ethernet connection I use with our PLC 5's and the SLC 505. I told you in the first

posting what module to do this. Lookout thinks it is a serial connection but it is over the ethernet hundreds

of feet away!
