MAX Problems: Connecting and converting

Solved!
Go to solution

We are experiencing another problem with NI MAX.  We have Lookout 5.1 and 6.2 on a stand alone and a Virtual Machine, both exhibit the same problem.

When attaching a database, we select Citadel 4, the wizard opens.   Clicking browse results in the window closing and MAX stops responding.  If we enter the path manually and click OK the same problem arises.

No excessive resource usage, no other odd results besides the MAX windows being completely useless requiring a force close.

 NI MAX 4.5.0f0

Update:  Also happens with MAX 4.6 from Lookout 6.5 beta.Upload logs toftp incoming.  DTS NI MAX Logs 022210.zip

This is a bug.

If you only have 5.1 installed, I think it will work. We modified something in MAX but maybe we didn't take care of the Citadel 4 stuff.

If your purpose is to convert to Citadel 5 database, I can help you. But if you just want to attach it, I'm sorry I don't find a workaround to do so before we fix it.

Ryan,

I am trying to convert the database.  What can we do?

How is that a bug, as big as this one, gets through multiple versions?

Upload the Citadel4 database files to ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming.

I will convert it for you.

This problem happens from Lookout 6.2. We found it recently. Sorry for inconvenience.

Ryan,

Can you post the car number?

I don't think it's helpful to post the car number here.

Are you NI engineer? If you are interested in this problem, we can talk via email.

I thought it will be helpful in tracking the fix in future. No I am not an ni employee just a bug tracker..:smileywink:

I see. Do you mean that you can track the bug fix in the "known issue list" and the "bug fix list"?

I don't know if other NI employees usually post the car number here, but I'm sorry I don't prefer to do so. Actually we don't list all the bugs in bug fix list or known issue list. I'm not 100% sure if we will add this specific car to the list in the future after we fix it.

Ryan,

This database is in the large family.  Its about 9 years of data.

Please send me instructions so that i may do it on the client machine.

Solution
Accepted by Mike@DTSI

Mike,

First I apologize for the bugs in Citadel 4 support.

My idea was to use MAX installed with lookout 6.1 to attach and convert the database. So you need to install the Lookout 6.1 on a clean machine. At least there is no higher version of Lookout installed.

And then you need to copy the attached file to \National Instruments\MAX\UI Providers\. This fixes another bug that the "create/attach Citadel 4 database" option is invisible.

I tried this way and it worked. This is the link for Lookout 6.1 download if you don't have the CD.
