Can IMAQ 1394 aquire 12 bit digital camera images?(Basler A102f/fc 12 bit)

Juancar,

Have you tried using a different cable? It sounds like your connection may be shaky being that it is disappearing and reappearing so frequently. I've had that happen to me before.

Hello Danny,

Yes, I did. I have used three different cables, one supplied by Camera supplier, another one supplied by the "Adapter" supplier and the last one supplied by another Electronics firm. I found a bad connection in one of them. The last one with the Basler driver, at least, works. I think the Basler cable doesn´t work because the length is too longer (10 m. + Adapter cable), but the others are about 2 m.

Dear Robert,
I have just received the PCMCIA firewire card and supply. I have plugged the adapter and checked from the MAX. The adapter is on "Device Manager" (Host VISA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Controller) but when I use MAX the same happens:
- Initially A102fc camera appears
- Clicking on it MAX shows up an Error "The driver can not load"
- The camera disappears and the screen on the right comes back grayed

However, if I use the Basler driver the camera can adquire images without problems with this new adapter.

The PCMCIA card I have been using is a general card. No manufacturer is showed. Did you check the Ratoc Systems´PCMCIA firewire card? Could you send me the reference number of that PCMCIA firewire card?

Regards,
Juancar

Dear Jauncar,

At this point, I would tend to think that the hardware you are using is not what is causing the issue. I am curious to know what is causing the problem. If you would like, you can call my office, and I can have one of my tech's work with you directly. The number here is 512-416-1099.

Dear Robert,

Could you send me your E-mail and your complete Telephone Number (with prefix of the Country), please? The previous days we have been testing again and we have noticed that even removing the Basler driver, when we attach the Basler Camera, the laptop recognize the camera as a Basler A102fc, so that, the Basler driver doesn´t disappear at all. Now, we are using a new laptop with Windows 2000 (SP4) without installing the Basler driver. At this point, when we intall all the NI software (labview 7.1 and NI-IMAQ IEEE 1394 v1.5.2) and plug the camera, the camera is not recognized. We have done all the step showed in the "Getting Started with NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 Cameras" manual. The only step we do not do is to modify the camera properties (The camera is not and if it were where would we do?) We are thinking to install the hardware manually with our softwares technical support.

Hello Juan --

My name is Bryan Fry -- I work at Graftek Imaging with Robert Eastlund. Please feel free to contact me directly. The phone number [USA, Central Time] is 01-512-416-1099 Extension 104. My email address is "fry@graftek.com"

If you send an email, it might be helpful to see screen shots of he 102fc entries in MAX and the Windows Device Manager.

Hopefully we can get this resolved without much trouble -- I have used the 102fc on a W2K laptop with the same NI software that you are using, and it worked without any problems for me.

Robert,

could you please tell me which is the Ratoc model that you use? I have taken a look into the Ratoc web page and I have found the following model but I would like to know if it is the same as you are using.

Thanks a lot

Hi

I am also having similar problems with my Basler camera and if you find the answer I would be really greatful to know. My camera is a Basler A302f. I had been using the camera fine with it's own software (BCAM) on this laptop. Then I installed labview and the Vision and IMAQ software and looked for my camera in the Measurement and Automation Explorer but it was not there at all. I tried launching BCAM viewer and the camera was communicating fine using that. I tried going into Device manager and updating my cameras drivers. I had a choice between three IEEE 1394 OHC1 compliant drivers. I have tried all of them but none allow me to see my camera in the tree. I notice that when I browse through the labview Vision cd I find a dll library with drivers for all sorts of Basler cameras but not the 300 series. I phoned tech support and they told me to uninstall everything and reinstall labview before the cameras drivers to see if that helps. I'm going to try it but I don't hold out much hope. Although I get the choice between 3 different IEEE drivers I do not see a "NI-IMAQ" one listed. Do you think this could be the problem?

I forgot to mention that I am using a firewire cable connected to a 4 pin PCMCIA card slotted into a laptop. The card then recieves power from an external plug.

Yes, if you want your camera to show up in MAX, you will need the NI-IMAQ driver. This can be downloaded from our website. but before you do that, check that it isn't already on your computer under Add/Remove Hardware.
