Hello
My name is Bharath Im working on my final year college project on LABVIEW.Im focusing on Vision systems..
Though I have worked with LABVIEW for the past 1 and half years but this Vision system is not like the other LABVIEW.
Here's what I want to accomplish I will be loading the conveyor belt with two different sized bottles i want the system to detect the diameter of the bottle and do certain operations.. Can we do detection like that ?
Im using a USB WEBCAM ,and all these things should be continuous in real time . snapshotsw should be taken when the proximity detects the bottle at a particular point on the conveyor
Any tutorials would be helpful please post the link of the tutorials..Im in INDIA and in city Chennai..
Any one willing to help would be great ...
Ill come to your place to learn
thank you

Hi Bharath,
What is the conveyor speed? How many bottles have you planned to inspect in a second? What is the sensor you are using? The diameter of bottle can definetly be found out using LabVIEW.

Greetings Baharath,
You actually touched a spot on me. Your application is one of the interesting applications in mechatronics engineering. muks is very subjective in asking you about your conveyor speed as this will determine whether or not you'll be able to capture "shaded " images. Keep in mind that IMAQ is very powerful tool that all you need to is to know:
These information can be found in "Vision Concept Manual" accompanied IMAQ. Believe it or not, you shall fininsh your project in few weeks thereafter and congraulations in advance.
As I mentioned several times, I'm not a LABVIEW expert, I use IMAQ with VB.NET, but the functionality is the same.

The conveyor belt comes to a halt when your bottle comes into a particular position this is picked up by the proximity sensor .
Once the conveyor belt is stopped a trigger is sent to the labview to take a picture.
This picture is then analysed to give the diameter of the object
here is a photo that will explain what im asking
The red line in the attachment is what i want to detect ..if i can do that it will do
Can some one please hand out some theories and tuts on how to proceed with machine vision and labview

Ok so from the picture you have posted

I think a accuracy of 1mm to 5mm will do
i just must be able to pickup a pepsi botlle 2 liter or 500ml so the difference is atleast 2 cm od diameter...
i just have my system right under the light so these reflections will not be there ..
Please post links of tutorials that might help me
