Firewire Camera Disappears in Device Manager

Hope someone can help with this problem

I have an AVT Guppy IEEE 1394 camera and I'm currently trying to install it for use in Labview

I've followed the instructions on http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3506, however after installing the the OHCI host controller driver,  for a second the camera appears as a NI IMAQ interface using the IMAQdx IIDC driver - BUT then it just disappears from the deivce manager?

At the same time, For that brief moment it's registered in MAX it but after a couple of seconds it's gone again.

The camera works fine using AVT software - which I uninstalled before tryingto use it in Labview

Any help greatfully appreciated!

Using Max 4.5
Latest edition in NI Vision and Drivers
Labview 8.5
AVT Guppy 445B NIR
PCI 1394a firewire card OHCI compliant

Hi bleaklow,

I suffered from similar situation  few months ago. Please double check the following:

  • the Cable is reliable  as Microsoft Windows would recognize easily your PCI card as OHCI (so camera is not involved in that)
  • make sure that power cable is connected. camera won't be recognized in this case too.
  • use first (legacy IMAQdx) as driver. It should work fine and would be recognized in Vision Assistant and LABVIEW as well.

I hope this help and please feel free to acquaint us with your progress.

Thanks VB

1. the Cable is reliable - Yes it works fine - camera works great using that cable through AVt firepackage

2. make sure that power cable is connected. camera won't be recognized in this case too - It's bus powered and light is on.

3. It disappears before I get the chance to play with the drivers.

I'm sure it's something to do with the OHCI generic host controller driver and seeing the device as to whether the power is on. Reinstalling the driver makes the camera appear in the device manager for a split second each time. The Intek driver used for AVT software works fine (but obviously not with Labview and MAX)????

Thanks for the suggestions though

Seems problem solved

Although you need to have the generic OHCI driver loaded and not the Intek AVT one - You also have to have the AVT software loaded on the computer for it to work in Labview.

I just loaded firepackage back onto the computer - changed driver in the device manager and it works perfectly!

cheers

Hi Bleaklow,

Is your problem still solved? I have at the moments also problems on disapearing camera's (AVT Marlin).

I will try installing firepackage and check if it helps.

thx,

Hi Ben

It all came down to a problem with the winXP SP3 driver. Seems that windows haven't got it quite right as far as firewire is concerned! I'd suggest contacting the guys as AVT were really really helpful in telling me a work around by rolling teh driver back to SP1 (albeit not their fault  - it's windows!)

Cheers
