Unibrain Fire-i code 10: device cannot start after reboot

Dear NI Community,

I recently reinstalled the vision software packages in order to resolve a driver issue I was having with my firewire camera.  After the reinstall, everything worked fine and I could once again choose from the three camera drivers in MAX.  I acquired images, processed them, etc.

After shutting down my system yesterday and restarting it, the Device Manager tells me that the NI Imaq Camera cannot start and has the dreaded yellow exclamation mark on the device.  It is listed as an imaq camera.  (I am using Windows XP.)  The exact error in device manager is: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".)  It appears to be properly powered up, however, due to the fact that the indicator light on the Camera is green indicating proper operation, and not yellow, indicating a problem.

The device is also not showing up in MAX

Is there anything else I need to configure to have the device boot properly with the new driver?

Thanks,

German Coast Guard

Dear German Coast Guard,

Have you tried the suggestions in the KnowledgeBase Article that I listed in your post here?

MAX only shows generic driver for Unibrain Fire-i Camera

I was wondering if this may be an issue with your FireWire card driver. Perhaps re-installing the driver for your FireWire card, and then re-installing the camera would help.

Best Regards,

Nate

Sounds like Nate has the right idea.  Check to make sure you're using the IMAQdx drivers.  (The dx being very important)

The Fire-i will install with generic drivers by default.  Open up MAX and change the driver to the IMAQdx driver if you haven't already done so.  Doing this cleared up a lot of problems for me with these cameras.

It's also worth noting that I've recieved a couple of "dead" Fire-i cameras out of the few dozen I've used.  Also had one that worked for a few hours, then failed.  It failed in an odd way too.  MAX knew the camera was connected.  But I was unable to recieve any images from it.  There's a history of spotty quality control on those Sony CCDs.

Good luck.

Dear  NI Community,

Sorry that I haven't responded in a while.  I have been out of town.

For some reason when I plugged the camera into the system again today, it showed up and everything worked fine... I am quite confused as to what the problem could have been and was not able to try the suggested fixes for the problem as everything functioned today  (not that I am complaining, haha).  I will continue to monitor what happens and post if anything else comes up.

Thank you for your continued help,

German Coast Guard
