Why do XY axes rotate when looping button is pressed

Here is my problem & Q - I do not fully understand ‘Score #’ and ‘min number of matches’.

Main Q: as shown in picture 14-3, as soon as I check the box for min. # of matches, the part’s status changes to fail. Why?

Also, as I say in picture 4, the XY axes start rotating as soon as I hit the looping button.

The closer your image matches your template, the higher the score. 

When you set a minimum number of matches, you're adding a condition for that step.  If you have no min or max set, there's nothing to fail so the step always passes. 

The rotating axes probably the match pattern trying to do a best fit.
