First of all dont rename bmp file to .jpg. Downloading it is a real pain.

On image 3, extracting the hue color plane works great - the ball is black on a white background. It doesn't work nearly as well on image 2, possibly due to high compression.
Is the camera going to be mobile or stationary? If it will be stationary, you could take a background image and subtract it from your live images. Only the robots and the ball would be moving on the field. It would be fairly simple to locate the ball in that scenario.

I feel it is not going to be that easy considering that players shadow will most likely fall on the ball. It would work only when you have a really good trajectory algorithm for tracking the ball.
