imaq1394k.dll error

I have a system that uses the IMAQ 1394 driver to grab images from a camera.  On occasion I get the blue screen of death and after restarting the computer the camera will not work until I unplug the firewire cable from the camera an plug it back in.

When I get the blue screen of death it has a message like:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL  ......

and then under technical information it says:

***  STOP 0x000000D1 (0x0ff9097C, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0xEE9F6EBC)

***  imaq1394k.dll - address EE9f6EBC base at EE9F0000, DateStamp 423ad8b5

So it seems like there is an issue with the IMAQ drivers.

Has anyone seen anything like this before or have any idea what is happening?

Hi Derrell,

I have not seen anything like this before, but we can probably figure out what is happening given more information.  Could you please give me the following:
What OS are you using (ie Windows XP SP2)?
What version of the NI IMAQ 1394 driver are you using?
What system are you using (Manufacturer and Model Number or if this is unavailable P4 3GHz, 512 MB Memory.....)?
When did this issue start occurring?
Is there anything in particular that causes the blue screen or is it completely random?
Any other information you feel could be helpful.

Thanks,

Hi Ryan,
Here is some more info for you.

Operating System is Windows XP SP2
IMAQ 1394 Driver version is 2.0
Computer is from a local company (in Austin) called Denichi.  It is  3GHz P4 with 1Gig of ram
The problem seems to be randon (and has occured since the system was set up ~ 5 months ago) and I haven't been able to determine any cause for it and so far I have been unable to reproduce it.

I am using a 3.1 megapixel ISG lightwise camera (LW-3-S-1394).  I am grabbing images in Format 7 with a specified range of interest.  The acquisition rate is ~ 7 frames/sec.

After I get the blue screen of death and restart the computer the camera will not work again unless I disconnect  the firwire cable and reconnect it.

I have a picture I took of the message displayed on the monitor the last time the system crashed I can send to you if you will email me an address to send it to.  My email is derrell.sloan@metrosol.com.

Thanks for the help.

Derrell

Hi Derrell,

It seems you have a typical system.  I recommend upgrading to NI IMAQ 1394 v2.0.1, which can be found at: http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/webcategories/85256410006C055586256BE60070436D?opendocument&node=132060_US.  This is a free upgrade for people who have purchased v1.5 or later.  The update fixed several bugs and could eliminate the blue screen you are seeing.  If this does not work, make sure memory dumps are set to occur on blue screens.  To do this,
1) Open the Control Panel
2) Double click on System
3) Select the Advanced tab
4) Click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery
5) Under Write Debugging Information, select Kernel Memory Dump

When the blue screen occurs, a dump file should be created.  This file will contain information which will tell us why the crash occurred.

Ryan,

I have a kernal memory dump file I can send you if you let me know where to send it to.  I have not installed the new drivers yet because I wanted to see if we could get a crash and capture the kernal dump before doing the update.

Hey Derrell,

You can either attach the kernal memory dump file to your discussion forum post, or you can put it on the NI FTP site (ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming/) and we'll be able to access it there. Once you are able to get a crash and a memory dump, I would recommend upgrading to 2.0.1 and see if the problem still occurs. Keep us updated on how things are going. Thanks.

Ryan,

I uploaded the kernel memory dump file to the FTP site (ftp://ftp.ni.com/incomming/).  It is in the zipped folder 'Kernal Memory Dump.zip'.

Hi Derrell,

Sorry for the late reply.  I was out of the office last week.  I received the memory dump file and will take a look at it, but we need to know if the newest version of the software causes the same problem.  Could you try upgrading to version 2.0.1?  If this still causes a crash, could you attach this memory dump file?

Thanks,

Good catch Derrell.

Currently there is no fix for this bug, so Version 2.0.1. of the driver may periodically exhibit the blue screen as well. Work is underway to fix this bug for the next release of the driver.

While a fix is planned, here is some tips to reduce a risk of blue screen in the interim:
1) close down all open applications while running your application
2) minimize the number of parallel tasks in your application

Thanks for all your useful information

Johann
