Using the Vision Assitant requires a licensed copy of the Vision Development Module. Do you have an unexpired evaluation copy or a fully activated copy of VDM installed? You can install an evaluation copy by downloading and installing it from our website here.
The other possible licensing issue you may be having is if you do not have an unexpired evaluation copy or fully activated copy of our Vision Acquisition Software. Using a USB camera with out software requires the use of the IMAQdx driver which requires a license. If you are able to capture an image in MAX it means you already have this software installed. The evaluation period would have begun as soon as it was installed.
To see if you have this software and whether or not it is activated you can open up the NI License Manager. A fully green square means fully activated, half yellow means evaluation, and full or half red means it has expired.
