measurement studio group in toolbox is not shown

I must have lost them when I received the latest version of Measurement Studio.  This is the first time I have had this problem.  I have access to the tools by creating them in code or copying existing tools, but there is no Measurement Studio section in the tool box.

I did install the new drivers...

NI DAQ 3.7.1 or so.  Measurement Studio Enterprise 8.5   Visual Studio 2005

Hi Michael,

Is your scenario the same as the other user in this form where they have the Measurement Studio tab in the Toolbox with Windows Forms but not with Web Forms? Could you please state what exact drivers and versions of NI software you had before you upgraded and also what you upgraded to?

It sounds like you now have DAQ 8.7.1 and Measurement Studio 8.5 and are using Visual Studio 2005.  I assume you had Measurement Studio 8.1.2 before and were using Visual Studio 2005?

- Did you upgrade to the same package types (i.e. Professional to Professional)?
- Did you experience any errors during installation?
- Did you have Visual Studio open during the install of Measurement Studio 8.5?
- Can you try opening a Visual Studio 2005 command prompt and typing "devenv /setup" to see if this fixes the issue?

Enterprise to Enterprise

- Did you experience any errors during installation? Not that I can recall.

I have also repaired the installation.

- Did you have Visual Studio open during the install of Measurement Studio 8.5?

Does it even allow that?

- Can you try opening a Visual Studio 2005 command prompt and typing "devenv /setup" to see if this fixes the issue?

>devenv /setup
Command "devenv" is not valid.

Hi Jinsoo,

I have read through this thread 2-3 times but from your last 2 posts I am having a little trouble understanding exactly what the issue is currently and which steps you have taken to solve it.

Could you please post a recap of the problem as well as what you have tried so far, include screenshots if necessary.

Thanks, this will aid me in assisting you further.
With warm regards,

David D.

Jinsoo,

Also, have you looked at our network variables tutorial linked below?

Hello Michael,

I know you probably feel like you have said this a couple times already, but I would really appreciate it if you could explicitly give us the exact order of installation of programs and versions that resulted in this corrupted state.  This well help us as we try to recreate the state you have come to be in and perhaps come to a solution that way.

In the meantime,  I think it would be beneficial to try the following three things in order:
1: When you tried running "devenv /setup" was it from the VS2005 command prompt?  This can by found by going to the start menu>>all programs>>Microsoft Visual Studio 2005>>Visual Studio Tools>>Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt.  This would be the first thing to try.
2: If this doesn't work, repair the installation of Measurement Studio.  I know that you have done this already, but it is important that this installation is in a good state before step 3.
3: If step 2 doesn't work, try repairing the installation of your drivers.

Once again, the order of installation is very important here, and should always be Visual Studio then Measurement Studio and then drivers.  If at any point the installers ask you to reboot your computer, make sure you do this before proceeding to the next step.  Thanks for your diligent work on this issue!

1. worked!

Thanks!

For future reference, I already had VS 2005 installed.  I updated MS long afterwards.  At some point in time I uninstalled VS 2008.  That may have messed it up.

Good to go now, however!

Dear all,

I've to report the same problem also in my case, but worse; my development environment is the following:

MS Windows 2003 Server, Visual Studio 2005 Professional, LabWindows/CVI 8.5.1

In VS2005 there isn't neither the 'Measurement Studio' toolbox, nor the menu item; if I try to add it manually (following the procedure described for CVI 8.2.1), I fail because there isn't any NationalInstrument namespace in the list of .NET framework components. I tried both devenv /setup and repairing the CVI installation, but nothing. It seems that the only difference between before and after installation of CVI is the possibility to create a new 'LabWindows/CVI Project' inside VS2005, but even if I try to create this kind of project, the toolbox does not appear... to be honest, this toolbox does not appear in any kind of VS2005 project!

Any idea? Thanks!

Hello Nicola,

First off I would like to mention that Windows Server 2003 is not a supported operating system for LabWindows/CVI 8.5.1 or Measurement Studio. That being said, I have had reports from customers before of some of our other software working with it even though not technically supported. Please understand though that there is a reason it is not officially supported and that you may encounter strange issues with Windows Server 2003.

Moving on, I do not believe that the OS is the problem in your situation. Which version of Measurement Studio are you trying to install? Here is some more information about the versions of Measurement Studio.

Please let me know which version you are using so I can assist you further.
With warm regards,

David D.

Dear David,

I think that the problem is solved! In my university we have the Enterprise edition of Measurement Studio; but when I asked this question to our sys. admin., I have also found that there was a problem during the installation of this piece of software, something related to MS server 2003 and terminal services... I don't know. Nevertheless a new reinstallation seems to have solved everything. Thanks again! Bye.
