3D alignment algorithm for fiber optics (VB)?

Does anyone have or know where I can get a library of alignment algorithms for optical alignments? I am trying to duplicate functionality Newport provides for their devices on a non-supported device. I need to be able to align fiber using algorithms for 2d, 3d, hill climb and then laser weld using a laser hammering algorithm.
I don't know if I need to code these myself and, if so, what algorithms to code.

Purchasing any expensive library is out of the question. Outside of that, any suggestions are welcome!

Oh, all development is done in VB under Windows NT. Devices are (hopefully) standard GPIB, though one may be a serial device.

Thank you for contacting National Instruments.

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any free or inexpensive algorithm libraries for fiber alignment. I know that this can be a fairly involved process, but is definitely possible using National Instruments products. In fact, this customer solution highlights this application type, showing that it is possible.

Since this is such an in depth process, I'm not sure how easy it will be to find alignment libraries or even algorithms for free. A quick search on the internet also revealed this other solution. You might
try contacting the companies listed in the solutions above for more information on their applications.
