measurement studio unknown error in visual studio 6.0

Hi, I installed today Measurement Studio Enterprise Package for Visual Studio 6.0 and I'm getting a "unknown error" when trying to run "add/remove component wizard" or to convert a project. I also installed Measurement Studio for Visual Studio 2005 on the same computer and it works fine. Installation for VS6 has been done in a different directory as recommended. Any idea about how to get the problem solved? Best regards. Jean-Daniel Perroset

It seems that vs6 don't find the path to the tool or don't find the files for this tool. Therefore you should control the settings in vs6 and registry.

Best way is to test a default installation with vs6 and search for the path of the convert and add/remove wizard and then change it in pc with unknown error.

When error comes in default installation - then i need exactly you MStudio Version - in some versions you have patches (see links below)

Perhaps adding the right path to VS 6 Settings solves the problem

Can you attach here a screenshot from your error ? Does your default examples works in vs 6 with the changed path ?

What Servicepack have you installed for VS 6 ? Look at following links and update to actuall service pack. Could be that the error is away after.
You need SP 3 or higher - so best way is to install the last SP from Microsoft Download Center

Please give me feedback if error comes after installation.

Best Regards

I'm running VS6 with service pack 6.

I tried with the default installation directory and a custom directory and both don't work. The present installation directory is  C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MeasurementStudioVS6\

My MStudio version is the 8.5

Here are some of the keys found in the registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\0DD2490E979AB5B48B68B22A9C79C9D5]

"97E33B8D60B74A743B93F27053A61509"="C:\\Program Files\\National Instruments\\MeasurementStudioVS6\\Help\\NIKey.exe"

Don't know the ones used when the 3 buttons of the toolbar are clicked.

Best regards

Dear Johann,

The first link in you message makes a redirection loopback to my post.

The second link about the toolbars doesn't solve the problem. I had to perform these actions to get the toolbar displayed after I got the "unknown error" in visual studio 6.0 for the first time, but know the toolbar is always shown.

The third link also didn't solve the problem. I tryied to create a temporary project by using the Measurement Studio Application Wizard, but I got the "unknown error" as soon as I did click the ok button of the wizard project information dialogbox. If I validate this error and examine the project settings, I can see that preprocessor constants, link libraries and other options are not set as they should according to the description given by the third link.

Best regards.

Ok - what happens when you install Visual Studio 6 on default directory ? Did you test it ?

Then we can say if problem is only because of pathes or when error still exists it could be a version problem.

Best Regards
