Hi,
I'm using the NI-7344 Motion Controller, and looking for the option to "hold" the motor in place after its reached its destination.
Is there an option to send a current that would hold the motor in place against any natural physical forces?
The NI manual talks about a "prevent motion" spec. What does that do?
Thanks,
cosmund

Cosmund,
Are you using a stepper or a servo motor? If you are using a stepper motor, as long as the motor is powered it will have a holding torque that will maintain the current position.
Also, where in the manual did you see the prevent motion spec. Was it in the manual for the 7344? The only places I saw in that manual that mentioned preventing motion were with regards to the limit and home switches. Is that what you are referring to? Those are inputs that should be attached to switches that will activate when the motor reaches the limit of its travel or its home position.
I hope this helps.

Christina,
A stepper motor is being used, but there does not seem to be a holding torque.
The spec in question is under Motion I/O > Control > "prevent motion"

Brian, We are using a ZSS-26 drive.
Does the holding torque feature in any of the softwares (MAX maybe)

No drive = no holding torque 🙂
