OK so these are "education" devices. It is how they are priced and marketed. (Moreover they are going out of production according to prophacy) You know, the input impediance (1.4Kohms) is specified.
I am reminded of the Yugo automobile. It deserved the reputation it earned (It did get you from point A to point B if you were not too picky about where point B was) Yet failed to remain marketable despite its low price. Apparently consumers demand that a device sold for $100 MUST have the same performance as a device sold for $1200.
Really, you still pay for performance
