DAQ appears in device manager but not NI MAX

I have four 6320 NI DAQ cards installed into a server, all four appear in device manager and appear to be operating correctly.

NI MAX only displays three cards (Dev1, Dev2, Dev3).   Two cards seem to be sharing one position in NI MAX (but not device manager). The two that are conflicting are on different PCIe riser cards.

I have tried both uninstalling reinstalling the drivers, and repairing to no success.

Server: HPDL380e gen8 with two PCIe riser cards

OS: Windows Server 2008

NI DAQ: 6320

NI version: 9.5.5

Can anyone help?

Hi,

Since you see all devices in Device Manager but not in MAX this may be a corrupted configuration file in the MAX database. Below I have provided a link to a Knowledge Base that covers how to remove MAX database corruption. It is important to note that by following the steps in this Knowledge Base you will remove other configurations such as tasks in MAX.

Thank you Jake,

We have tried a few things since my post.

Firstly, physically removing the cards and reinstalling them cause NI MAX to display all four correctly after turning on the server,  and our voice recording application operates correctly also showing all four cards.

Deleting the cards in device manager (without removing drivers) and then rebooting also makes NI MAX display all four cards properly.

Resetting the configuration as per your suggestion, appears to achieve the same result in a simpler way.

However, everytime we reboot the system again it reverts back to only displaying 3 cards, only two of which function in our application.

Do you know why it would change back to only three after a second reboot?

There could potentially be a corrupted MAX installation, but I find it odd that this only occurs after reboot as though it is going back to a known state. You may consider updating your DAQmx driver, because this should also update your current MAX version. Does your voice recording application work without all four devices appearing in MAX? Do you know if refreshing Devices and Interfaces by selecting it and pressing F5 causes the 4th device to appear?

It consistently fails to display 4 cards after rebooting from a functioning state.

Refreshing devices does not do anything, we can only get the fourth card to come back after resetting the configuration data (or uninstalling in device manager) and rebooting.  We have tried repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling the NI software to no success.

Only 2/4 cards work in the voice recording application whenever NI MAX displays only 3 cards.  The one that doesn't work but still displays in NI MAX, in its configuration menu has all Tristate boxes ticked in 'Power-up states' and set 1 for Tristate (Line states all 0).  The two properly functioning cards have nothing ticked and 'Show Details' produces an error noting the resource is reserved.

MAX version 5.3.1f0, the disk version on the DVD is 9.5.5.  I do not know how to check the driver version, it is not displayed in Device Manager.  Driver Date is shown as 13/06/2012.

I believe the driver version you are referencing is the DAQmx driver, which is 9.5.5. Below is a link to our latest driver version at this time, DAQmx 9.6.1.
