Having trouble setting up Daqmx in WIndows 7

Solved!
Go to solution

I did a fresh install of Labview 8.5 with Daqmx 8.6 yesterday and can't seem to get it to work properly.  I have two different hardware devices (not trying to use them at teh same times) - a USB 6211 and a USB 6008.  Windows 7 detects & installs software for each just fine - they appear in device manager with the blue NI icon & report a "no problems detected".  However, neither Labview or MAX can see them (e.g. there are no daqmx devices listed in MAX).  I tried installing the same software on another Windows 7 machine with no luck.  I have previously been running Labview 8.5 on a MacBook w/o issue.

Any ideas?

Yeah, being in device manager is step 1, but without the service it will not show up in MAX. Getting the device to show up under "Devices and Interfaces" is our next step. LabVIEW will not be able to see it until then so it's not a concern.  I suspect there may be some issues with the device loader service. We've made many stabilization improvements to this service since 8.6. (as I write this our current version is 9.7) However, with only having LabVIEW 8.5 you can only upgrade to DAQmx 9.3 according to this knowledgebase. I would try upgrading to that version. If you still see problems there are probably some messages in the Windows Event Log that could be helpful.

Upgrading DAQmx did the trick.  I see now that Windows 7 is not explicitly listed as compatible with DAQmx 8.6, so it probably was not extensively tested with.

Thanks!
