How do I keep a USB-6008 device active?

I am using the USB-6008 digital lines to control some motors.  However, after the program is running, the USB device doesn't respond to program commands unless you disconnect the device and reconnect.  Is there some way to programatically keep this device active?

Hello Andy,

Your USB-6008 is not functioning properly.  You should not have to disconnect and reconnect the device each time that you want to run a VI with it. Does your computer have multiple USB ports?  If so, does your USB-6008 exhibit the same behavior on all of the ports?  Also, what version of NI-DAQmx is currently installed in your computer?

I have noticed no difference using a different USB Port.  I am currently using NiDAQmx 8.6.1f, and the computer is running Windows Vista.

Hello Andy,

I see that you are using DAQmx 8.6.1.  As a start, I recommend upgrading to the latest version of DAQmx, version 8.7.1.  You can download this version at http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/965/lang/en  .

Is the program that the device fails to respond to written in LabVIEW? If so, I think that an additional troubleshooting step would be to set up a simple digital output task in Measurement & Automation Explorer, and run the task to see if it the USB-6008 responds, or if it generates an error. Also, if you have another computer with Windows Vista installed and the appropriate NI software, I would try to run the program on that computer with the USB-6008 to see if you experience the same problems.

Best wishes,
