Installation of PCI-MIO-16E-4 did not work

Hi,

I wanted to install my PCI-MIO-16E-4, running in an older machine, to a newer computer (Windows XP Pro, processor Intel Prescott P4 3GHz, motherboard Asus P5GDC-VDeluxe). I had NI-DAQ 7.3 installed on this computer before installing the board, but the board was not recognized in MAX. So I have installed NI-DAQ 7.4, but the result is the same.

I can see the board in the Device Manager of Windows (recognized as Data Acquisition Device, with a logo of NI near-by), but with a remark that it does not work properly (Code 1).

What should I do?

Thank you

Jiri

That leagacy card has not been supported in the last few versions of DAQ. You may want to search tes site to find the last version that supported that card.

As of Nidaq 7.5, the NI PCI-MIO-16E-4 (PCI-6040E) 500 kS/s (1-channel), 250 kS/s (multichannel), 12-bit, 16 AI

Is still supported by Nidaq Mx and traditiolal daq

It could be a problem with the board.  try to move it to a different slot and see if it makes a difference.

I stand corrected, Thank You Dr Imad, I was unaware it was continued as the NI 6040E (maybe I was thinking AT in lieu of PCI?).

This board should be supported by NI-DAQ 7.4.

I completely de-installed NI-DAQ, removed the board, reinstalled NI-DAQ and then reinstalled the board in another PCI slot. It does not work(see attached screenshot of the Window's Devide Manager).

Then I re-installed the board to an old computer. It works fine there 😞

Jiri_2,

It is possible that card is being installed improperly.

Try uninstalling the card by opening the device manager and right clicking the PCI Device entry under Data Acquisition Devices.  Then select Uninstall Device.

Next, left click on the computer icon at the top of the device list (on your comptuer it is called VEJRAZKAXP), then right click the VEJRAXKAXP and select scan for hardware changes.  The computer should detect a PCI device.  When the installation windows pop up, make sure you DO NOT select "search for drivers on the internet".  The next window should ask  you to "install from a list or a specific location" or "install the software automatically".  Make sure you select "install the software automatically".

If this does not solve your problem,  we will continue to troublshoot from there.

It seems it was the case: I re-installed the card and it works fine now.

I do not know where was the problem. It might be a firewall of Windows XP (SP2), which I turned off before reinstalling the card (it was switched on during previous installations). However, the card works fine now even with the firewall switched on.

Thank you

Jiri

Jiri_2,

A lot of people end up having the wrong driver installed for their DAQ device (for one reason or another), usually windows has asssigned the device some default driver that is not made by NI.  Removing the card and putting it back in (even in a different slot) will not solve the problem, becuase windows reassigns the device the same incorrect driver each time thinking that you wanted to use the wrong driver.  In order for windows to assign the device a new driver you have to uninstall the incorrect driver through the device manager.

I am glad your problem is fixed.
