Installed DAQ devices not listed in DAQmx device name control

I had an issue last week with some labview code that used a PCIe 6320 daq card and an executable application written in labview 8.6.

the application had been working fine, but then one day for some reason it failed to find the DAQ card. The card was identified by a device name (i.e. "Dev1") stored in an ini file on the pc. There was a part of the application where you could pick the default device name from a DAQmx Device Name control (which would normally autoexpand with the full list of available devices), but no names were listed when I clicked on it. The application was installed on a machine with only the LV runtime and DAQmx runtime, but no configuration support or MAX.

Originally I thought the hardware was to blame but the card showed up fine in the windows device manager list. So I tried to install MAX to see if that would see the device. However, after installing MAX and running it up, I got a "database corrupt" error with a knowledgebase number (4GA9TOQA). I followed the instructions in the knowledgebase to fix the error and then max worked AND my application could see the device again.

What I want to know is, if this problem happens again but on another pc which doesn't have MAX installed, is there a way to fix it without having to install MAX?

Thanks in advance.

Paul

You pretty much need MAX to do much else with it... 😕

The one thing I'd try if you haven't already... Uninstall the DAQ from Device Manager, then wipe the MAX database (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/2C7480E856987FFF862573AE005AB0D9)

But my bet is you'll need to install MAX.

Hi,

You could try repairing the DAQmx driver and restarting the computer. To do this you go to the windows Programs and Features pane of the control panel, right click on National Instruments software and click uninstall/change, select the driver and click repair.

It's a shame you can't recreate the problem to test for a better solution.
