Is there a smaller runtime only version of the NI-DAQmx 8.5 drivers?

The version of the NI-DAQmx 8.5 drivers we have found are over 800 MB.  Is there a smaller run time only version of the drivers that we can install on a machine using our NI cards?

If you do not require support for all of the functionality of the NI-DAQmx driver and utilities then you now have the ability to deploy five different runtime versions of NI-DAQmx, ranging from the full-featured 617 MB driver to a size-optimized 169 MB runtime engine. You'll find more informations here

Hello systemsrep,

I see that you are using NI-DAQmx 8.5 and wanted to find a smaller footprint for the driver. You can select various size footprints of the NI-DAQmx driver when creating an installer. You must realize that when you do this, you run the risk of omitting components of the driver that you may later require. It may also make it more difficult to program the sources files that use the DAQmx driver.

The following procedure will allow you to accesss the custom installer capabilities:

1) Create and save your DAQmx application into a new LabVIEW project.
2) From the Project Explorer, right-click on Build specifications. Select New>>Installer.
3) In the Installer property window, click on Additional Installers under Category.
4) Click the check box for NI-DAQmx 8.5 to select the driver.
5) From the drop-down list for the Install Type, select the different options for your customized option.

There will be a description for each of the Install Type options and what components will be omitted.

Important Note!! Omitting specific features such as Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) will make it much more difficult to program source files that use the driver. It may also limit your future developement when you require the missing features. Limited runtime footprints should ONLY be selected if installer file size is an issue.

The fundamental question remains!
Where can we download the promised downsized runtime versions of NI-DAQmx 8.5?

If we talk about runtime drivers, we do not talk about huge tools!

Hoping for a solution

Hello Klaus,

Thanks for posting. Unfortunately we currently do not have a down sized runtime version of the NI-DAQmx 8.5 driver. You can customize your driver by creating a installer with the above instructions.

Hello,

I have the same problem. I am not using Labview so I cannot create an installer with a smaller version of the driver.

Is there a plan to release a downsized version of the driver as a stand-alone installation?

Thanks.

Hello Atacama,

I see that this can be a problem for your application. We currently do not have something with a smaller footprint.
May I contact you throught e-mail? We can discuss what other options we have and more about your application.

I would also appreciate a smaller driver. Most of the time, the end user has only one device connected to his PC. My VB6 apps are <1MB and the drivers are up to 1GB! Sane?
