LabVIEW VI Help for Traditional (Legacy) DAQ?

Hello,

I hope this is an easy question to answer. I'm trying to upgrade a traditional DAQ application to DAQmx. Unfortunately, our XP machines are unavailable and all I have is Windows 7-64 bit and so cannot install Trad DAQ on my machine. This means I have no installed Traditional DAQ help. I thought I could find the VI Help online for Traditional DAQ but I searched and searched and have found nothing. I have found the manual, which has C function documentation, but nowhere can I find descriptions of the LabVIEW VIs and their inputs/outputs. I called and spend some time on the phone with a support engineer and we couldn't find it either. Is this available anywhere?

The latest version of Trad DAQ documentation will be fine.

Thank you!

PS - I've been pointed to this one several times already Smiley Happy but I need more detailed explanations:

Hi B Spears,

Can you give me more information about the .vi's you are using that you want to know the context help for? I'm unable to find a single page that lists the context help for all traditional daq .vi's but with more knowledge of the specific names I could look those up for you individually.

Thanks,

Peter W.

Hi Peter,

I was able to get an AE to email me the LV Help file for Trad DAQ so I'm set.

My big question though is, why isn't this available online? Trad DAQ is an obsolete product so it would seem that NI would want to push support to the web so that customers could use those resources to solve their own problems instead of calling in and asking the AEs which, in my experience, are similarly inexperienced with Trad DAQ. I spent 20 minutes searching online myself and then another 25 minutes on the phone trying to locate this help file. I understand NI wants customers to upgrade Trad DAQ to DAQmx but how are they supposed to do that when they can't even find out what their original Trad DAQ application is doing? In the end you just get frustrated customers.

Would you mind following up and finding out why this is the case? I'm curious as to what prompted this decision if it is in fact a conscious one.

Thank you!

Hey B Spears,

I'm glad to hear that your problem was solved. As far as why the help for traditional daq isn't online anywhere I can't find any reason other than just a lack of necessity. Most of our customers are already on daqmx and those that are upgrading from trad daq can usually access the help files in their own system, much like you could if your XP computers were available. While it may be more convenient in some cases to have all of the help menus online, the other could also be the case, where a customer is looking for daqmx help and ends up with traditional daq information clogging their searches. I'm sorry for the inconvenience this caused for you though.

Hi Peter,

Thanks again for your reply. I would respectfully disagree with a softening smiley: Smiley Happy

As more customers switch to an OS beyond XP I think you'll see this request more often. Having that online help was essential to upgrading to DAQmx, which is what NI would like its customers to do. I have submitted a request to the ni.com webmaster as well.

I appreciate your assistance!
