PCI DIO-96 PNP Card Issue

Greetings, Could anyone up there please help me by showing me how to configure the Interrupt request as well as the base address for the I/O for a couple of PC-DIO-96 PNP cards?..... I go to the MAX (Measurement and Automation Explorer version 4.0) and navigate through it by going to the "Devices and Interfaces"/ "Traditional NI-DQA (Legacy) devices... then I see both cards. However when I right click on the devices and choose properties I cannot change the Input/Output range nor the Interrupt request (Shows as grayed out).....How can I accomplish this? I would really appreciate any suggestions or ideas on how to do this. Thanks

Hi Spiegel, The interrupt and base address of a device would actually be configured in Windows Device Manager, not MAX. I'm curious as to why you need to configure either of these. With a PNP device, it is normally sufficient to accept the settings assigned by Windows. Could you expound on your application?

Luke,

One of the PC-DIo-96 PNP is not responding to the default address.... or any other address when changed.... Please refer to attached. What do you think Luke? Thanks.

Hi Spiegel, I'm not sure exactly what would cause this problem. Has this device ever worked on this system? If so, have you recently installed any new drivers or hardware? Is your BIOS up to date? Have you modified the base address of any other devices in your system? Hopefully we can uncover some clues to the cause of the error.

Luke,

Yes this particular device was working perfectly since 03/09/2007... However around 05/12/2007 it was reported that something was wrong with it....(The task for this card is to"Detect Presence" and position of capacitor chips placed inside a large air flow oven) when I took a look into it that's when the message that I sent you appeared (Snapshot sent)... The funny thing is that Since I installed the Software and then the hardware I did leave it with the default values (Never assigned or modified the base address) and started to work nicely. The computer BIOS is up to date, and in addition I personally prepared this computer to replace an older one which had WINNT,SP6 as well as the obsolete old model 1811172-01  PC-DIO-96 (This ones had dip switches and became nonoperational...thus having to order the newer version model 777271-01).  Also I prepared another station with WIN2K, SP4, same new cards on 04/18/2007 and up to now it is working just fine. (The only difference is that I did disable the Windows updates on this one...) Anyways it is just me but I noticed that eventhough I swap the cards I still have the same problem...could it be that the card went bad??? Please contact me at 661-295-5920 ext.140 if you can ... Thanks

Hi Spiegel,
Can you describe what the problem was with the board that led you to "look into it"?
You mentioned that you swapped the cards and still have the same problem. Do you mean that the same card does not work in a different computer, or do you mean that a different card didn't work in the same computer?
If the same card has the same problem on a different computer, you may want to contact National Instruments about getting the board repaired. You can find contact information at: www.ni.com/support

Luke,
I did isolate the problem and it turned to be the PC-DIO-96 PNP..... it became nonoperational... I had to do an RMA to see what they want to do.... by the looks of it they maight give us a new one. Thanks for everything.

Best regards,

Ludwig
