flyback diodes for USB-6525 control of solenoids

Hi,

I am using the USB 6525 to control 8 seperate solenoids (DC 12V, .17A)  and the user guide recommends installing flyback diodes to protect the relay from inductive loads.  My question is what are the specs for the diode that would appropriate for my application?  Is there a diode that people have typically used for this app that they could direct me to (link?)  I would like to be able to make a screw down connection rather than a solder connection is this something that can be typically found?

Thanks,

Justin

I have always used a 1N4004 across inductive loads, they are good to 400V peak inverse rating. Remember that the banded end (cathode) goes to the positive side on the coil.

Typically I crimp spade lugs onto the leads and slip them under the connection screw of the socket, not sure what the configuration of your solenoids are.
