losing samples

Currently, my program is set up to save data for roughly 5 minutes.  One thing I notice is the amount of samples that are being save as time increase is reduced.  IE, first file has 9K samples, 2nd has 8K, and so on.  I was wondering if anyone has an idea on how I can eliminate this problem or what might cause the problem?

to answer that query, we will need more input from you

• Which software are you using? LabVIEW, CVI??
• Where is this data coming from?? acquiring from a DAQ card?? data from a serial port??
• How are you starting and stopping the 'save to a file' opearation??
