Solved!

I ran alien --scripts *.rpm and then dpkg. I got some warning and
the installation fails.

Whe I run UpdateDrivers I get:

muz@muz-e6500:/usr/local/natinst/nikal/bin$ sudo
./updateNIDriver

Howdy Muz!

NI-KAL does not currently support kernel 2.6.31.  There is a thread on the Linux users forum about NI-KAL support for 2.6.31+ here.   You should be successful with 2.6.28 or an earlier kernel.

Also, for future reference, if you have Linux related questions post them in the Linux users forum.  You will probably have better luck getting answers there.
