usb-6008 Ubuntu Linux and exporting data to text file

Greetings All

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Linux 64bit and I have a USB-6008 I would like to be able to export data to a text file in the format of

year,month,day,hour,minute,second,voltage.

so the text file would read a voltage every second and the text file will have the following data inside it

11182011054735,3.3V

11182011054736,3.9V

11182011054737,3.1V

How can I do this? Are there any examples of this?

Thanks

Rick

Greetings Rick,

I will be happy to help you out with this application. May I ask what LabVIEW version are you running on your Linux machine?

I just have the basic usb-6008 I don't have labview.  I'm looking for an example of how to do this without labview and just using the usb-6008 and ubuntu 10.04 Linux.

Thanks

You are going to have to pick some programming language.

I'm not worried about the programming language it will most likley be C or some type of C derivative.  I'm just looking for an example that works with Linux and Ubuntu 10.04.

Thanks

I believe that there are C examples that come with the driver (DAQmx Base). Did you do a search? See this.

Those are great screenshots,  I got one of the planet Jupiter, it doesn't mean the picture shows me how to get to the planet 😉 hahahha.  But for those of us how can't get it installed, it really doesn't do any good.  I searched through the groups and tried to install it on opensuse 11.3 and SL 5.x and nothing but errors pop up.  I just have to admit it to myself Linux doesn't get much love from NI,  when users have to convert packages and change symbolic links (that a user figured out how to do, not NI mind you) and we still get errors well you see where this is going.  Sorry for the rant needed to get that off my chest before I head into traffic, no need for road rage 😉  But at least you guys are trying and for that you have my heart felt thanks.

PS I Still Love Linux

Hi Rick,

As Dennis stated above, the best way to do this would be to install DAQmx Base and check out the C examples. LabVIEW in Linux is still fairly new but we will definitely help you out if you run into trouble.

Here is a great intro of DAQmx Base on Linux. It explains basic data acquisition which is what you are trying to do with your 6008.

Keep me posted on your progress. Thanks!
