Hi there,

Do you mean that you wish to replace the DAQ card itself, or the software driver for your PCI1200?

Also - LabVIEW 8.2 is only supported under Windows 2000 and XP, not NT - are you sure these are the software versions that you have?

Can you clarify your question, and then I'm sure we can help

hai hannah,

Thanks for your reply, precisely i want to to replace DAQ card itself not the software driver. i don't know much about PCI 1200 CARD utilities thats y i wanted to know about it. If i buy USB6008 will it be useful for just gathering data and for measurement purposes. To be precise i am working in interferometry, by  capturing fringe patterns using CCD. i want to know if USB6008 works well then i will buy it.i have windows XP and NT.  Thanks once again.

bye

Hi Viswanath,

The PCI-1200 is a legacy board which has the following features:

  • 8 Analog Inputs, which are 12 bit resolution, +/- 5V range, with a sampling rate of up to 100ks/s
  • 2 Analog Outputs, which are 12 bit resolution, +/-5V range, with a sampling rate of 1ks/s
  • 24 digital IO lines
  • 3 16 bit counter/timers

The PCI-1200 is supported by Traditional NI-DAQ 6.9.3 (Legacy) (which will not work with LabVIEW 8.2) which is a different API to NI-DAQmx which most of todays Data Acquisition Boards from NI use.

The USB-6008 does not offer the same kind of feature set as the PCI-1200, but it depends on what you are using it for, the USB-6008 has the following features:

  • 8 Analog Inputs, which are 12 bit resolution, +/-1V to +/-20V range, with a sampling rate of 10ks/s
  • 2 Analog Outputs, which are 12 bit resolution, 0-5V range, with a sampling rate of 150Hz
  • 12 digital IO lines
  • 1 32 bit counter/timer which only supports simple edge counting

This device is supported by NI-DAQmx, which will work just fine in LabVIEW 8.2.

How are you planning to drive/acquire data using this hardware, what are your signals in terms of voltages, and how quickly do you need to sample the data? In order to say whether or not this product will work, I'd need some more information about what you are trying to do.

Our website recommends a PCI-6221 as a replacement for the PCI-1200 as it offers many of the same features, you can see more infromation on this card here: https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/model.pci-6221.html This product also comes in a USB version - the USB-6221.

I hope this helps

hai hannah,

i am going to use the DAQ card only for controlling modulation of  LASER diode with some frequency simultaneously controlling vibration frequency  a PZT actuator. so will it be sufficient to buy NIUSB6008. i hope it will work. thanks.

Hi Viswanath,

The USB-6008 isn't really suitable for generating frequency signals. Neither the analog outputs or the digital outputs have a clock to drive the outputs, which means that all controlling of the speed/frequency has to be done by software.

I would suggest that you look at slightly more advanced products. The USB-6008 is designed to be low cost for simple applications, which is why it has a limited feature set.

I would recommend that you call the NI Office in the UK and talk to one of the Internal Sales Engineers, who will be able to give you advice on the type of device which is suitable based on information you give them about the signals you need to acquire/generate. The UK office number is 01635 523545
