Connecting pads true a via in a footprint design

Hi there,

I'm making a footprint for this http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=J502-ND component.
Now I need to connect the pads of the GND pin's (on bottom and top) together true a via.
But I can't add a via in the footprint edit mode because there are no layers to select. Or maybe there is another way?

Anyone's answer is gratefully appreciated.

Hi Jaip,

You should place a via when you are in the main work area instead of the footprint edit mode, select Place>>Via.  Drop a via where you want then you can double-click the via then select the 'Via' tab, check the assume net then assign it to ground

Hi Tien P,

Thanks for the reply! That is indeed a good solution..
Now I've done it another way (kept trying while waiting for response's) , but not sure if it's going to work properly.
I used normal TH pads, but with custom shape (made a rectangular). De custom shape I placed with the zero-marker (x:0 and y:0) in the middle of the pad.

So when a whole is made, its in the center of the pad, acting as a via... Is this correct?

Using a TH pad instead of a SMT should work.  The good thing about this method is you don't have to manually assign a net to the pad, as long as the pad connected to ground in Multisim, the pad will automatically associate with ground.
