Symbol without footprint and pins

Hye,

Does anyone know if the following is possible in MultiSim 10.0.1 / 10.1:

I'd like to create a multisim part that has no footprint and no symbol pins. I know it could be done in the very old ultimate software..

In my current design it would be to place a coin cell battery in my bill of materials, whilest the battery socket is the actual multisim part (footprint and pins).

So the battery would then be a sort of dummy part, that does get written into the bill of materials.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

I do not see a way of accomplishing this as you want it. I tried using a subcircuit block with no pin, but it did not show up in the bill of materials. I also tried to see if a component couuld be created with no pin and it will not allow that. The minimum pin coust is 1.

It also appears to me that any virtual component without a footprint will not show up in the BOM either. So it has to have a footprint in order to display in the BOM.

One option that may help here is the fact that you can assign footprints to virtual components through the spreedsheet. So you could take the battery component and assign the footprint you want to it. This would kill two birds with one stone as you would have the battery in the schematic while the footprint you want is transfered to Ultiboard.

I hope this helps some as this is all I could find

So in short it isn't possible right now, because the main purpose would be to have no footprint. (just BOM item)

Another example would be a protection cover and a fuse for a fuse holder, the component would be the actual holder itself, and there would be two of the so-called dummy components, namely a fuse and a protection cover..

Maybe it could be built in, in a next version.

Ofcourse it isn't a big issue, because I can always manually edit the BOM-file, but it would make life easier! Smiley Happy

Anyway thanks for the quick reply!
