missing database errors at startup of mulitsim 12

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi.

Ive downloaded and installed multisim 12.0.1 in evaluation, and when I run the program i am greeted by messages informing me that each database is missing. I have checked the paths in database manager and they seem to be correct. Im running Vista 32 home, full admin rights. Im considering buying the student edition to complete my university work, but im a little put off by this issue.

Can anyone here offer any advice to resolve this issue?

Many thanks

Hi Mondo,

Welcome to the NI discussion forums, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble, could you take a screenshot of one of the error messages for me? I'm assuming you have downloaded the program from http://www.ni.com/multisim/try/.

Yes that is the page from which I downloaded Multisim, I downloaded the educational downloader, and that version, rather than the professional version. Im running it in evaluation mode to try and complete some University work. I may purchase the Student version for the remaining study I have.

Here are screen shots of the error messages.

As per the last image, I tried re-installing from the download, and also re-downloading and re-installing to no avail.

Hi Mondo,

Could you check that the database files have not been created in read-only mode? To change this, right-click the file and un-check read-only, then allow yourself full control with ownership inside the security tab. This sometimes happens when installing the software as an Administrator.

If the above didn't work, it maybe a restriction within Multisim

1. Select Options » Global Restrictions.
2. Enter the password.  The default password is case sensitive: "Rodney" (without quotes).
3. Under the General tab un-check all the checked boxes.
4. Click the OK button to save the new settings and exit the Global Restrictions dialog box.

If you can't see the global restrictions menu, please follow the instructions on this link.

Please let me know if this works for you.

Ben,

Thanks again for your help.

Update:

Global restrictions menu: All checkboxes already unchecked, no password required to access them.

Properties: All the database files are in the correct target location, and are not checked as read-only or hidden.

Sorry, still no joy getting the databases to appear.

Greg

P.S. Do I need to install the ELVIS software for Multisim to work? I just thought I should mention it just in case, since during install the prompt appears, but I couldnt find the file, so I assumed it was an additional software that I dont have (or havent paid for)

I'm sorry that you are still having trouble, it's not something I have been able to replicate yet.

Did you try setting the security permissions of the files so that you have full control as shown in the picture attached? If it's installed on a computer network that you trust, try temporarily adding the Group or User Name: "Everyone", and then giving that group full control of the file.

The ELVIS software should not be necessary to install Multisim, but I will look this up to see if there have been similar problems relating to this.

Please let me know how you get on.

Yes I checked all the permissions as you showed them, go advanced menu to actually change them, etc. So Thats not the issue i reckon. Im a bit surprised by it to be honest, Im no expert but normally Im fine with these things...

My uni doesnt even use v12 yet 🙂

v10.1 would be good enough lol

Cheers for the help, just tried a clean install, and same problem, updates, same problem. Weird.

I havent activated it using the activation manager, but isnt that just for paying versions?

Hi Mondo,

The program should be able to access the databases without activation.

I found some users that are had a similar issue with Multisim 10.1, this same error message sequence occured because of registry corruption for Microsofts Database Engine. This forum post suggests that replacing the MS JET registry keys may fix the problem and even gives files for registry data, but I strongly reccomend that you make a backup of your registry if you want to try this.

Did you upgrade from any previous installation of Multisim or are you using the databases that came with your university database? So far I have assumed these to be the default.

no previous installs and databases only from my recent download. Ive seen reg file replacement recommended but i wasnt too keen, i generally cope with most issues, but i steer clear of regedit and dont relish the idea of messing with that. Guess thats my only route. 😞
