speaker

Hello all,

I'm still learning how to use MultiSim. I am doing my lab homework and am looking for an 8 or 16 ohm speaker component? I have looked in all the supposedly obvious places and still cannot find it. Please help once again?!

(I am using "Lab Manual (MultiSIM Emphasis) to accompany Electronic Devices and Circuit Theory" by Boylestad)

You might try http://www.duncanamps.com. There is a generic spice model for a speaker there. One thing is that this is a spice representation  of a speaker load and not the type of component that can produce sound.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure why you need a more realistic speaker than a 8 or 16 ohm dummy resistor, especially since it sounds like this is for an undergrad electronics course.  Are you looking for a device that will output the signal to your speakers?  MultiSim 10.1 does contain an ideal speaker instrument to do this (albeit, not in "realtime" since SPICE is not designed for this).  Look under "Simulate/Instruments/LabVIEW Instruments/Speaker".

In any case, if you need to mimic a more realistic speaker you can try the approach used here.  Note that if you're just applying a sinusoidal voltage, a simple resistor (@ the equivalent impedance) will do just fine.  A wideband signal like speech or music is a different story, however.

I would tend to agree with NavyJay on the resistor deal. Most of the time this is what I do, but if you are designing something like a power amp or audio amp that would be used for music amplification then you need more than just the resistive element to see how it effects your amp because of the inductive and capacitive properties of the speaker. Most of my designs would be geared toward telephony apps and the resistor load has proven acceptble for this purpose for me.

It would be nice, though, if Multisim had a few types of speaker models in the database.
