Norber, you have made everything right:-)
It seems that I have a very rare specimen of sequence editor (b.T.W it is version 4.2.1.83).
Here (attached) is the proof:

AAAAAAAAAh!
Problem solved! The dialog only has this behaviour when the main window is fully located within the second
screen. When the main window is fully or partly on the second screen (external TFT) then the dialog height is
sized proportionally to the main window height.
Sorry, somehow I never tried it onto the laptop screen. But anyway this is a strange behaviour. I fiddled around
and (just to be curious) tried 'reset UI configuration' which placed the main window on the first screen.
Poor fellows out there, only working with one screen ... 🙂 (Now I know why)

I have two monitors, but am still unable to reproduce the problem no matter which monitor the sequence editor is in. There might be a bit more too it than just being multi-monitor. Perhaps if you can attach a screen shot of your monitor configuration settings there might be some subtle difference in how we have things configured.

Doug, you are absolutely right!
It is more than just multiple screens. The first thing I tried is to change the arrangement of the two screens in the system settings. I usually have the first screen (laptop) arranged lower than the second screen (external TFT).
To put it short: if the lower edge of the first screen is arranged below the base line of the second screen than I have the problem of the small dialog sized. If the base line of the first screen is placed in the same height or higher than the base line of the second screen: dialogs appear nice and big!
See attached screen configurations (german OS, but you'll get the point):
Problematic configuration:
Configuration OK:
Configuration also OK:
please try if you can reproduce the behavior!
