Can't see boards in 1045 chassis

I'm having difficulty getting my new chassis configured.  The cardbus device drivers appear to be working properly.  MAX doesn't see any of the cards I've installed as follows:
slot        device
2           8310
3           gpib
13,14    2565
15,16    2565
17         2527
18         6624
See attached screen shot.

I'm running Windows XP, service pack 2
Labview 8.0.1

What is my next step in getting MAX to see my cards?

Hello Les Bartel,

Thank you for posting at the discussion forum. The NI CardBus is not configured automatically in MAX. You do need to configure it manually and here is a knowledgebase that explains how to configure it under the PXI System in MAX. Configuring the NI PXI-CardBus 8310. Please note that you will have to right click on PXI System in MAX and select to delete all identifications before you start configuring the system properly.

Now, from the image that you sent us, it does not seem that any of the cards were installed properly because if they were then we would have at least seen them under Devices and Interfaces >> DAQmx Devices or Traditional NI-DAQ. Please make sure that you have all the drivers installed in your system and that you can find the devices in the device manager.

One thing to note here is the sequence of boot up is important. You need to have the Chassis on before you turn on your computer so that the BIOS of your laptop enumerate the extended PCI bus. Hence, before configuring the Cardbus, make sure that you turn on the chassis first, turn on your computer. Make sure that you properly install the drivers for the cards you have in the chassis (you should get a found new hardware wizard upon boot up to windows). IF you have installed the devices, then you could proceed to configure the cardbus.

To get to device manager, right click on my computer >> properties >> Hardware tab >> Device Manager. You should find a section that says National Instruments Devices and it should list all of the cards you have in the chassis.

Please let me know if you still have problems configuring your system.

Thanks for the information, Ayman.
I have been through the steps described in the article.  None of the cards show up on either of the buses when I select 'show PXI buses'.  I have installed the drivers for the cards as well as NI-VISA.  I did delete all identifications before attempting to configure the chassis again.  I have the two cables from the cardbus controller connected to the two bottom ports on the 8310 card.  The 4 LEDs on the bottom are on continuously.  LEDs 0,2,3 are lit on the top.  Number 1 is off.  I reseated the two cables, powered on the chassis and then the laptop.  There was no change in my ability to see the cards after attempting to reconfigure.

I moved the the 8310 from slot 2 to slot 1 and everything is working.  I reviewed the documentation and could not find anything that says that card must be in slot 1.  Is this a requirement?

Hello Les Bartel,

I am glad it is working now. I failed to mention that slot 1 is the controller slot and that the Carbus interface has to reside in that slot. Universally, Slot 1 is the controller slot, so if you have a PXI embedded controller, cardbus or a MXI interface, they would have to reside in that slide. This information is provided in the Chassis user manual (i.e. if you are using PXI-1000B, you could look at the chassis user manual and it will talk about the different slots and what they are used for). Thank you again for contacting National Instruments and have a great day.

Hi,
Which controller are you using ? Did you install the PXISYS.INI file.
this file is specific to the combination of the controller and the
chassis you are using. If you have not, please install the CD which
came along with your chassis as it has drivers for the NI routing
tables. Also I would suggest installing or re-installing the driver
NI-488.2

I'm having similar problems.  I identified the Chassis as PXI-1045, but in the status window it says 'This chassis has been identified but is not described in the pxisys.ini for this system'.  I'm sure this is why I cannot see any of the installed cards in the system.  I understand that I may need a specific pxisys.ini file for my system, but I'm not sure where to find it.  Everything that was ordered for the test system was all piled together, so I'm not sure what I am looking for or if I just need to download it from NI.  I'm using a PXI-8331.  Comments?
