I am trying to connect to my remote Labview RT PXI but cannot connect

I am trying to connect to a remote PXI that is a Real Time engine.   It boots up and has an IP address. For example, it says, "Transferring control to user program.  Labview RT Boot Loader  . . .  (copyright stuff)  Initializing network. . . (then gives my IP address) . . . Welcome to LabVIEW Real-Time 8.0 . . .  NI-VISA Server 3.5 started Successfully."  However, if I go into Measurement and Automation Explorer and I look under remote systems>>devices and interfaces nothing shows up.  When I open Labview and attempt to Switch Execution Target and I choose my IP address I get an error "Failed to connect to RT engine".  I pinged the IP address and it responds so I don't think that is a problem.  What should I do?

I also get this error when trying to connect to a remote device through MAX.  "Error in connecting to the remote machine 155.100.168.2 Make sure the RDA server is running on the remote machine and that both computers are connected to the network."

frikandfrak,
It is important that you are first able to see the PXI in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) before trying to connect to it in LabVIEW.  What versions of LabVIEW and LabVIEW RT, and other NI software do you have on your computer?  It sounds like you are trying to connect to the PXI with LabVIEW 7.1.

What RT PXI controller are you using?  If it was released after LabVIEW 7.1, then you will need to add support for it.

Have you been able to connect to it in the past?

What has changed between now and then?

Do you have other computers that can see it in MAX?

Have a great weekend,

When you say "gives my IP" or "choose my IP address", I suppose that you are using the PXI controller IP address, which is different from the IP address of the host PC you are using, isn't?

Also check that your host PC is not connected to other network (wi-fi or something).

You can check your PC IP address(es) opening a command window and entering "ipconfig".

The strange thing is that you find the address pinging. Try to open an FTP session to the address to see if the FTP server on the PXI works.

Hope this helps.
