Jim,

We spoke yesterday over the phone. It seems a part of your controller is damaged, so the best solution would be to send your controller for repair. The error message that you are getting does not really point us to any specific part of your controller.

If you thing this could be the hard-drive, you could try installing another hard-drive into your PXI-8176 controller. We have only tested our controller with FUJITSU hard-drives, but theorically you can use any 2.5" laptop hard-drive, not thicker than 9.5mm.

Feel free to call me using the Service Request you created through http://www.ni.com/ask. Call me using the phone number 1-866-ASK-MYNI (1-866-275-6964). Your service request is already under my name, so when you call and use it, you will get my extensio
n.

Hope to hear soon from you,

I have two issues to update you on. First I will not be able to get you the PO number till next week (4/7/03); my interface with purchasing is out until then. But more important is I do not believe that the problem is with the PXI PC (8176). I discovered yesterday that if I remove the PCMCIA card reader (8220) the PC will boot. The 8220 uses a Token ring PCMCIA card (Madge - Smart 16/4 Token Ring) that when removed, with the 8220 card installed, the system will also boot. I have tried replacing the 8220 card and the PCMCIA card, but it did not change the results. I will try to run some diagnostic test on the PXI chassis. If I find something I will let you know.

Jim,

I am glad you were able to narrow down the boot up issue to the PXI-8220 PCMCIA carrier.

It seems that only when a specific PCMCIA card (the Token ring card) is installed in the PXI-8220, the system does not boot. When using other PCMCIA cards in the PXI-8220 the system boots fine. Is this right?

Please feel free to call me. I will be happy to help you troubleshoot,
