PC control of PXI cards without PXI chassis

It would be very inefficient to buy a PXI chassis with one one card in it . So my question is if a PXI chassis is required to use an PXI card ?

Is there any adapter card that would allow PC's PCI/PCIe to control a single PXI card (without chassis) ?
Thanks.

Have you considered just purchasing the PCI version of whichever card you are trying to use?

Unfortunately, I am looking at NI PXIe-2569 module which does not have equivalent PCI version.

You might want to go check out switches from Pickering (sorry NI):http://www.pickeringtest.com/products/1035.html

If I had a better idea of your application I could maybe recommend something outside the box. In general, however, our switching cards aren't offered in the PCI form factor.

I just want to reaffirm that PXI modules must be plugged into NI chassis for it to function properly. An PCI - PXI adapter (cable) is not possible ?

None that I know of.  But NI does have some fairly inexpensive chassis.  I would recommend the PXI-1033.

PCI to PXI and PCIe to PXIe adapters do exist, but they're more for R&D than deployment... the main issue is mechanicals, as the PXI/PXIe card will stick out the side of your computer.

The only thing you're giving up by placing PXIe/PXI cards into a PCIe/PCI slot is all the timing, triggering, and clocks (none of these things are important to a switch module, except maybe the triggering).  Note that some PXIe/PXI cards will not work in a PCIe/PCI chassis if they're expecting either the 10MHz or 100MHz PXI clock.  However, I know all of NI's switch modules (circa Feb2014) work with PCIe/PCI adapters, as we use them in debug ;).  If you can overcome the mechanical hurdles, then the PXI card will work in a PCI slot.  However, I certainly recommend the PXI solution, as it'll just work, but if you want to cut your own path, I salute you!
