PXI-8220 does not work on PXI-1002 console

Dear Sir,

We have a PXI-1002 work with MXI-3 CARD.
Our PC is Dell precision 340 (pentium 4) with Windows 2000.
We have a PXI-4220 card that works fine when alone on the console PXI-1002.
But, when we put a PXI-8220 card, nothing works. Apears a conflict:
In the DEVICE MANAGER of the Windows 2000 we see on "System devices" "PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge" conflict with "Intel(R) 8285082860 Processor to AGP Controller - 2532".

Even when when we plug the PXI-4220 alone in the console this error happens.

Please, help!

Thanks for your attention.

Helio.

Helio,
It looks like your problem is being caused by the way that devices are mapped across the MXI-3 link. This has been encountered before and there are two solutions that you can find posted in an online document here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/B630062275E18F9086256B6E004E217C?OpenDocument
The first and easiest is just upgrading to service pack 3. The second solution is laid out in the linked document.

Hello Helio,

the PXI-8220/8221 PC Card Carriers are not supported with PXI-833x MXI-3 remote controllers. Please take a look at the data sheet:
http://www.ni.com/pdf/products/us/2pxicc50.pdf
(see Table 1 on the bottom left)

In addition to the listed NI PXI-8171 Series controllers, the PXI-8221 module also supports the NI PXI-818x Series controllers.

Dear Ross M.,

Thank you!
I did as you said (upgrading to W2K service pack 4) and the conflict disappeared. The PXI 4220 now works.

But, the PXI-8220 does not work yet.
The Installation Guide (322044A-01) have instructions to install it on windows NT, not on Windows 2000.

In "Device Manager" appears:
"Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible PCI to PCMCIA Bridge" with "!" mark before it.
In the "Device Status" appears:

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
Click Troubleshooter to start the troubleshooter for this device."

Thanks for you attention.

Helio,

I didn't notice that before, but as biker2000 pointed out the 8220 isn't supported by a MXI-3 connection. This is due to the fact that it uses serialized IRQ's which can not be passed across a PCI-PCI bridge, which is exactly what the MXI-3 connection is. In order for this card to function in a PXI system it would have to be in a system with an embedded controller and also on the same PCI bus as the controller (in the same chassis, and in the slots closest to the controller on larger chassis). This link is to the same document as mentioned before: http://www.ni.com/pdf/products/us/2pxicc50.pdf
In the Overview section it explains how these cards can be used. I hope thiis clears up why this configuration won't work.

Regards,

Ross
