Remote PXI missing cards in MAX

We have a PXIe-1062 fitted with a PXIe-8135 plus the following cards:

PXI-6509

PXI-7953R

PXI-8430/2

PXI-8430/2

The system is configured as a RT system and is connected to a test set via Ethernet. Therefore is be accessed remotely via LabVIEW 2012 code.

There are two sets of the above configuration. On our one if I open up NI MAX and then select "Remote System", then the system, then "Devices and Interfaces" all the above hardware is listed as expected.

On the other identical system if I open up NI MAX and then select "Remote System", then the system, then "Devices and Interfaces" the PXIe-8135 PCI-GPIB and the NI PXI-7953R are missing!

The system with missing cards in MAX is acting strangely. The software is a made up of combination of TestStand and LabVIEW on the test set. All the hardware in the remote system successfully initialises (no errors reported, even from the "missing" items). Some of the software components work perfectly, i.e. self-test, while other software components are failing (when talking to GPIB devices on the remote system). Note all the component software calls the same VI's on the Remote System. Also this was working fine on the other "customer" set up until recently, and still work fine (same software and RT deployment) on our system.

Are the missing items evidence that the PXI chassis, controller is on the way out?

Any ideas?

Hi Christopher,

I have seen this behavior earlier with some chasis. If I power cycle the chasis or even restart the OS, it detects the misssing cards. Did you try doing this?

We have had the customer restart the whole system a number of times over the week or so. Problem is the system is on the customers site in the USA and I am in the UK! 😞 We have not tried performing a Restart from NI MAX itself, would that be worth a try?

NI have implied they have seen this before and it is due to a corrupted VISA driver on the remote system. Problem is we have redeployed the remote system image about three times (after formatting the drive within MAX) and it still "missing" hardware. The image zip file could be corrupted I suppose...

If they log on to the web page for the remote system then the missing hardware is shown, but the pair of serial cards disappear. If they open NI MAX the GPIB and FPGA card are not shown but the serial cards are! Figure that one out! Smiley Frustrated
