Hi Team,
We’ve got a PXI-1044 chassis with a PXI-8820 controller that we’d like to upgrade.
The PXIe-8842 controller seems to be a good candidate for replacement but I’m not sure if we can keep using the same chassis (PXI-1044).
Ideally we'd like to keep our current chassis, as it’s working fine for quite a few years now.
Alternatively we could consider the PXIe-8840 (previous generation) but I’m not sure if we can get it with Win10 or 11 64 bits.
We’re mainly after a Core i5 processor with Win10/11 64 bits, although there is room for adjustments, in terms of controller HW spec, as we’d like to keep the PXI-1044.
Thanks,
Bravi

PXIe controllers can only work in a PXIe chassis. NI no longer sells PXI controllers.
If you don't want to upgrade to a PXIe chassis, you have to look for non-NI options like PXI-3982 | PXI/PXIe Controllers | ADLINK

Thanks for the answer, that's very helpful.
To be honest I didn't know Adlink was making PXI controller, that's good to know. Used some of there DIO and AO cards (PCI) in the past.
I guess the next question is more about whether that controller could handle the other PXI cards we have within the chassis but I'll raise that to the supplier.
Thanks.
Bravi

Cards supported depend on the chassis and not on the controller as it is a communication bus connection to the controller.

Thanks Santhosh for the clarification, so I guess for this upgrade we will have to go for an non NI option.
Cheers,
Bravi

Yeah, PXI(e) was designed to be a common standard compatible across vendors, so you can mix and match vendor cards/chassis as long as the standard is compliant.
If you're not inclined to use a controller, you could also use MXI to connect with an external computer.

Yep fair, although for this upgrade we'd like to keep the same architecture so controller within the chassis.
Cheers,
Bravi
